BOILER REQUIREMENTS

On March 3, 1965 the New York Senate amended the labor law to exempt certain boilers from (state and federal) inspection. “The boiler of a miniature model locomotive, boat, tractor, or stationary engine constructed and maintained as a hobby and not for commercial use, and having a volume of less than two cubic feet and a grate area not in excess of two square feet.”
NYS Boiler Laws, exception #7

This exemption does NOT mean anything goes. The Finger Lakes Live Steamers, Inc. has developed a boiler inspection program of its own. Below is the boiler inspection procedure the Finger Lakes Live Steamers uses to issue a record of inspection certificate. The record of inspection is recognized by other live steam clubs in the northeast.

If you are a visitor to the Finger Lakes Live Steamers, you must bring a record of inspection certificate, from your home club or State, dated with-in the past 12 months of your date of visit to our club. Those that DO NOT have a current record of inspection certificate must bring all required tools to perform a full boiler inspection under our witness using the boiler inspection procedure below. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
